The AMA recently published a study indicating that telehealth is the fastest growing segment of medicine. Noting telemedicine’s growth of 53% from 2017 to 2017, the study highlights how its’ meteoric rise is far quicker than any other medical area.
Interestingly, most of the data was drawn from insurance claims, likely significantly understating the true growth of telemedicine. A large percentage of telemedicine is performed by self – insured companies or companies providing employee benefits, encounters that do not reach the payers. As such, it is reasonable to assume that the actual growth of telemedicine is significantly higher than reported in this study.
Yet another clear indicator of telemedicine’s growth, appeal and vast potential in the near future!
