Jonathan Wiesen, MD
Board Certification: Internal Medicine, Pulmonary and Critical Care
Medicine
Dr. Wiesen attended medical school at the Albert Einstein College of
Medicine in New York where he graduated with distinction for research.
He completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency at the
Cleveland Clinic Foundation where he received a teaching degree and
recognition for research by the Ohio Chapter of American College of
Physicians. His Pulmonary and Critical Care training was completed at
the Cleveland Clinic Foundation with an additional concentration in
the department of bioethics. As a senior fellow he received a
research award at the American College of Chest Physicians annual
conference, and received the Cleveland Clinic Foundation teaching
excellence award. His clinical areas of expertise include
interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, mechanical
ventilation, respiratory physiology and hemodynamics. Dr. Wiesen has
many publications on a variety of subjects including ICU outcomes,
respiratory physiology, mechanical ventilation, cardio-pulmonary
hemodynamics and medical ethics. He is a member of all major
Pulmonary and Critical Care groups (ATS, ACCP, SCCM) as well as the
American Telemedicine Association.
As someone who has witnessed firsthand the ramifications of
populations without appropriate access to health care, Dr. Wiesen
recognized the importance of telemedicine in expanding the reach of
medical care. Seeing a notable gap specifically in the provision of
specialty services in these areas, he turned his focus to innovative
means to insure access to specialist care using telemedicine.
Moreover, it became clear that the medical system was riddled with
inefficiencies and outdated practice patterns, which could be
optimized by harnessing the latest technologies. His focus has been
on the utilization of technology to improve outcomes and provide
access to medical care in underserved areas, as well as to lower
healthcare spending by streamlining and optimizing the care provided
in other domains.
Dr. Wiesen currently serves as a clinical intensivist and
pulmonologist, works with the telemedicine group MySpecialistMD, and
is an advisor to the medical technology assessment group at OurCrowd.
